Security is a big deal now-a-days. You know, the AI finds all the stuff, and quickly, so the human baddies can use it more. So too can the human goodies, but it’s a regular arms-race there.
One stance of the snarky, tired nerd is “well, we’ve been telling them this all the time, for years…that you should pay attention to security, and now they’ll learn.” Part of that is also “these problems have been here for years, what’s new?”
At Cloud Foundry Summit this year, my colleague V Körbes made an excellent point in response to that, uh, “sentiment”: we don’t want hospitals to “learn from their mistakes” because it will mean, like, life-support systems not working, or just MRI machines.
I mean, I would add, we don’t want hotels to learn from those mistakes. In fact, I would add, we don’t want anyone to learn from their mistakes if it’s preventable.
As they say all everywhere in the London tube, if you see something, say something.
