Garbage Chairs of Amsterdam

When we moved to Amsterdam in 2018, one of the first things I noticed was how many chairs people threw away. In Amsterdam, you can just haul out any junk you have to the trash area on your street. That’s the norm, at least.

There’s usually fun stuff among the old air fryers, clothes, and wood scraps. In particular, there’s lots of chairs.

It’s a real Baader-Meinhof effect: once you know to look, you see them everywhere. Even Amsterdammers have told me this: they never realized there were so many.

Find a chair and taking a picture was one of everyday charms and little thrills of living in a new place. I don’t take these pictures much anymore because I live further out and there’s less people throwing away chairs. Also, I did some commentary videos on the chairs.
