Questions asked and not asked of Andrew Clay Shafer

We interviewed Andrew for Software Defined Talk last night. It will be our next week. Here are some questions I had prepared. I didn’t get to all of them of course.

  • How do you prepare for things? I can never tell if I prepare too much or too little.
  • How do you figure out applying academic knowledge to business?
  • Would you work at a big company again?
  • What’s the difference between “not having a boss” and having clients?
  • Should the DevOpsDays community work on being a bigger deal, or just chill where they are?
  • After being involved in a lot of open source (Puppet, OpenStack, Cloud Foundry, maybe Red Hat?) how do you advice people in the buy side think about open source?
  • What’s the thing you do differently now that you work more on the buy side? How has it changed your mind from years of working in the sell side?
  • As you know, I am always looking to crack my code on getting a “habit for forming habits.” You do that well. What’s the trick?
  • What does Ergonauts do week to week?
  • Does it take a long time to be pithy, or do you just go with the first phrasing?
  • Do you like talking at conferences now?

Lots of fun talk in many other topics, including run a burger stand. Subscribe to the podcast in traditional or video form to get it.
