This is from our recent survey. There were 752 respondents, all working at companies of over 1,000 employees, with “about a third (34%) have between 100 and 1,000 developers, 8% have 1,000 to 2,500 developers, and 20% have more than 2,500 developers.”

I’ve been writing up a series of blog posts and accompanying videos looking at the survey. Here’s the first video, going over the developer and overall benefits. I think they’ll come out over the next three or four weeks. Writing something and then waiting that long to publish is mind-gnawing for me, but, you know: professional!

I finally found an interesting “how many apps run on Kubernetes” stat writing those blogs, here from Gartner:

By 2027, 25% of all enterprise applications will run in containers, an increase from fewer than 10% in 2021.

That number is the one to watch now, rather than questions like “how many organizations are using kubernetes.”

As you can imagine, I’ve spent a lot of time with the survey. And sure, for you cynical pots of joy out there: you know, vendor commissioned surveys and all that, blah blah. Having worked with the team that does it over the past three or four years, I think it’s a pretty good representation of enterprise Kubernetes usage. That is, “normies”at large, not tech companies. I like the CNCF surveys for an even broader overview, and they ask a lot more questions, and put the raw data in GitHub.

As always, the most valuable part of a survey isn’t a snapshot one of year’s answers. The most valuable part of a survey is showing as many years as possible, like four in the above chart.
